Genomic selection is routinely used in all major livestock breeding programmes to predict and reduce disease risk. However, the costs traditionally associated with collecting large amounts of genomic data has been a major barrier for the industry. AlphaGenes researchers at the Roslin Institute have developed a technique that has been shown to increase the rate of genetic improvement by 35%, reducing costs and improving the supply and wellbeing of livestock.
