Space & satellite

Researchers in the University of Edinburgh’s School of GeoSciences have worked on a number of projects to improve the management and protection of forests and ecosystems. Satellite data have been combined with innovative analysis techniques to allow faster response times to forest degradation and environmental threats such as fires and illegal logging. In 2016, a ground-breaking memorandum of understanding was signed by the University of Edinburgh and software company Ecometrica to establish the first Earth Observation Lab in Scotland for the development of forest-mapping methods.
