The Edinburgh Futures Institute (EFI) will deliver a range of postgraduate and undergraduate courses which will set a new standard for world-class interdisciplinary higher education with a focus on data.
The qualifications will build capacity in the City Region, Scotland and UK by teaching generations of students how to create and apply data-driven approaches to complex research challenges and projects.
The EFI will focus initially on three sector areas that have significant potential to deliver growth within the City Region: financial services, public sector and creative industries.
There is a need for more data technologists and scientists, but there is also a need to improve data literacy in non-specialist roles at various levels across a range of professions.
Managers, leaders and change agents across all sectors in the economy need to understand data’s relevance in areas such as strategy and technological trends; evidence-based decision-making; and developing new products and services.
The EFI’s educational programmes will address these needs by bringing data literacy into the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum across the arts, humanities and social sciences; and by developing CPD and Executive Education programmes to promote data literacy across management and leadership within the public, private and third sectors.
To ensure that knowledge, skills and capabilities are aligned with the needs of employers, courses will be co-designed and co-delivered with partners.
