Edinburgh International Data Facility

The Edinburgh International Data Facility (EIDF) is private research cloud infrastructure providing compute, storage and expertise for data-intensive projects.

Built and managed by the University of Edinburgh's supercomputing centre, EPCC, the EIDF supports anyone working with data – from public-sector and government teams to businesses and researchers. We offer different environments for storing, sharing and working with your data, tailored to any level of security and sharing permission: VMs, confidential data workspaces, and secure Safe Haven environments for sensitive health and government data.

We have all the compute and storage you need when your laptop isn't enough. When you want to scale up, there's no need to invest in buying and managing hardware yourself. Beyond the various CPUs, GPUs and VMs, we also provide the essentials – GitLab for code sharing and collaboration, Jupyter notebooks, managed storage – all orchestrated through our user-friendly portal. Never used compute before? We offer different bundles, and you simply select the start and end dates of your project. Your resources grow with your needs, and the credits you invest can be moved around as your project evolves. Topping up is a straightforward process, our helpdesk is responsive, and every project has named people you can get in touch with directly so your requests are never lost in the system. We can have your project up and running quickly.

And you don't have to do it alone. Backed by decades of HPC experience, we can carry out the data science for you – or give you the tools and expertise to do it yourself.
