Edinburgh International Data Facility

The Edinburgh International Data Facility (EIDF) is the high-powered analytics and storage service that supports research and data-driven innovation in the Edinburgh and South-East Scotland region and beyond.

Built and managed by the University of Edinburgh’s supercomputing centre, the EIDF underpins the Data-Driven Innovation initiative and plays a key role in establishing the City Region as data capital of Europe.

The EIDF provides long-term hosting and curation of major regional, national and international data-sets for a wide range of stakeholders, including academics and industry, and offers both cloud-like and high-performance computing environments for the researchers and innovators who work with the data it holds. It also provides Safe Haven services to health and government users. The system is housed at EPCC’s Advanced Computing Facility in a purpose-built, high-resilience computer room.

The EIDF is governed by the Data-Driven Innovation initiative – part of the Edinburgh & South East Scotland City Region Deal – with capital investment from the UK Government.
