Futures Institute boost for Scotland’s creativetech showcase

CreativeTech Scotland Gathering (CTSG) brings together Scotland’s creativetech sector to meet academics across the spectrum of the creative and cultural industries. 

Now entering its fourth year, the event is bigger than ever and benefiting from support by sector experts at Edinburgh Futures Institute, the City Region’s largest innovation hub. 

CTSG was created as an opportunity for communities across the creative and cultural sectors and academia to share how they use creativetech and digital tools. 

The aim is to inspire leading companies, trade bodies, artists, creative tech innovators, creative practitioners and cultural organisations through data-driven innovation, enabling the adoption of ideas into creative practices. 

The event is also a platform to showcase the great creativetech coming out of Scotland, spanning a wide range of disciplines, including animation and VFX, arts and immersive AI, crafts, design, fashion, film and television, games, music, photography and theatre.  

CTSG’s founder is Caroline Parkinson, Director of Creative at EFI. Caroline said, “The CreativeTech Scotland Gathering is the only event that brings together the entire sector in Scotland to meet academics across the spectrum of the creative and cultural industries. My aim is to support their collaboration and innovation, to showcase their great work and spread the word through the CTSG website internationally that the creative and cultural industries in Scotland are an ever-innovating, ever-evolving and dynamic sector that pushes boundaries and brings the best of cutting-edge creative and cultural experiences to their clients and the public.” 

At the 2024 event, leading players in creativetech gave talks and shared insight about their work and industries. Keynote speakers included Chris McKenna, Head of Creative for the multi-Oscar-winning The Moving Picture Company, and Brian Gomez, Executive Producer & Creative Director at Dundee’s 4J Studios Ltd, which developed Minecraft for Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo. 

Next year, the event aims to deliver more insights and showcase the exciting breadth of Scotland’s creativetech ecosystem.
