University teams up with IBM to boost AI innovation

For the first time in Scotland, IBM has established a presence on the University’s campus, creating a unique environment for collaboration with researchers, dynamic spin-outs, ambitious start-ups, and talented students.

The decision to join with the University in Edinburgh reflects the city’s rich heritage in AI research and innovation.

The University has been a pioneer in AI for more than six decades and continues to lead the way, including spearheading the UK arm of a major European initiative to boost AI adoption among businesses and researchers.

Data-driven ecosystem

This collaboration is driven by the Bayes Centre, the University’s innovation hub for AI and data science. The Centre hosts a thriving ecosystem of data-driven businesses and accelerator programmes designed to support the next generation of AI and tech founders.

This collaboration signals a step forward for Scotland’s tech ecosystem, bringing together academic excellence and industry expertise to shape the future of AI and quantum innovation.

Speaker event

The official launch was marked by an event, featuring a thought-provoking panel discussion on AI, economics, and business. Speakers at the event included Baroness Ruth Davidson, Professor Ruth King, Director of Bayes Centre, and Sharon Moore, IBM’s CTO for Public Sector, UK and Ireland.

Topics ranged from upskilling the workforce and harnessing AI for good to ensuring responsible and sustainable technology adoption.
